Ukemi Course - 21st June 2009
The object of this seminar is to explore and share the practice and teaching of the various forms of Ukemi as well as defining the roll of uke.
The day starts with the basic forward rolls progressing through to the faster more dynamic rolls. The emphasis is on being soft and controlled, the idea being to protect the body from impact and repetitive strain injuries that plague so many Aikidoka. We look at how to position the body to best receive techniques, while simultaneously being aware of protecting the body from immediate and future injury.
We also look at the roll of uke. How it is ukes job to be positive and honest without blocking technique while maintaining an alert and alive attitude.
This seminar is formatted for all grades and abilities. I will demonstrate both training and teaching exercises, helping to improve yours and your student’s ukemi.
The course willbe held in a school hall where we have 80 mats and plenty of space.
This is open to everyone regardless of ability as I will cover teaching methods as well as practicing ukemi.
I hope to keep costs down so numbers permitting course will be £10-£15 .
