Morihei Ueshiba

Morihei Ueshiba, Aikido's founder was born in Japan on 14th December 1883. Ueshiba studied several styles of Jujitsu including Daitoryu Aikijujitsu as well as sword and spear schools in his life. Around 1925, Aikido as we know it came into being, making it one of the youngest martial arts. It's roots however derive from some of the oldest martial arts known. In 1948 Aikido was opened up to the World with the formation of the Aikikai Federation. Ueshiba died on 26th April 1969.
